When NOT to rely on WordPress

I was reading a forum discussion the other day. And they mentioned something that rang true.

Something that would have shocked me years ago.

WordPress is not suited for everything.

So I’m going to mention when NOT to rely on WordPress.

The number one mistake people have made is trying to run a forum or social media platform on WordPress.

Sure, there are plugins out there like BuddyPress and WP Symposium. But it appears a dedicated forum platform works best.

You see, forum software is not cheap. But it has many advanced features like mentioning somebody, quoting somebody and even gamification.

But where this gets difficult with WP is the integration with your theme. Also keep in mind, buddypress (as an example) is free. So they can’t be blamed for not wanting to create a state of the art system.

Now don’t get me wrong. I’m not pooping on BuddyPress. But I just feel if you want a dedicated forum, why not invest in one.
